It seems I have been missing from my blog-writing duties lately. I am so, so tired right now but we are almost to the fun part where I get to design and style our showroom! I can’t wait to post pictures of it (and our other projects), and hopefully meet you at our shop!

Things have evolved in the past few months so much that it’s hard to keep up! I would love to give you an update. I wish I had some prettier pictures (most everything is under construction), but I’ll see what I can do.

First, we are working on four kitchens right now for clients, not to mention the several kitchens that are going in our showroom. Then, we decided to add all kinds of interior-design-oriented stuff like flooring, custom rugs, vintage rugs, cool dishes, and dining furniture to the mix (along with the vintage finds we already had). Oh, and lighting, too. It’s a lot to pull together but I think it’s going to be so cool when it’s done.

Our vision is to have a well-designed, well-curated shop where you can go and know you’re getting really amazing things that will look good in your house. You’ll be able to find all the “ingredients” that make good design…great rugs, wood wall treatments and wallpaper, lighting, furniture pieces (old and new), great fabrics, unique accessories, and of course, cabinet storage for any room (and closets!). The trick with any good design is to have many layers, as well as a mix of old and new, and of course, quality. Our objective is to make it as affordable as possible and have enough unique items that you can even mix just one thing into your existing decor and change it up without spending a fortune.

We have been spending tons of time choosing lines in order to carry the coolest and best stuff around. It’s a huge challenge to be honest. There are hundreds of options of every single thing. Maybe thousands. So anyway, when you come into our shop, know that it was a labor of love and that I personally went through hundreds of lines of dishes/lighting/home decor/etc to find the one(s) I would personally want in my house, based on design, quality, and price. I am super picky. And oh, so tired.

Note: skip the next paragraph if you hate boring details.

Here’s a quick example. When we’re talking about dishes and choosing them for our shop, I’m thinking: 1. Do I love the design of them? 2. Does anyone else have them? 3. Would I choose them for me? 4. Do they mix in well with other things I have? 5. Are they going to go out of style? 6. Do they have a nice feel to them when I pick them up? 7. Do they get hot in the microwave? 8. Are they too expensive for an average person? 9. Are they high-enough quality to not be competing with Target? 10. Will the vendor let us carry them or does another shop within 100 miles have them? 11. Do I have to buy $10,000 of them to have them at all? 12. If I run out of them, does it take 3 months to get more? Most dishware lines unfortunately do not pass the above test.

Soon this will all be behind us. Our sample kitchens are ordered and will be arriving in a few weeks! Next week the blue carpet will finally be removed and we’ll start moving in our space. I’m on the hunt for wallpaper for a couple of feature walls between now and next week.

Our staff will be in the shop as soon as the sample kitchens are in (minus countertops), so we’ll be open before our official grand opening. I’ll let you know when they’ll be there, in case you are looking for something and want to come see what we have!
