My Newest Project

June 11, 2019 By Holly Thompson 2 Comments

Update: click on my first article here!

One of my favorite things I have gotten to do, probably EVER, was work with American Farmhouse Style magazine. They featured our home in their Fall 2017 issue, and it was an absolute ton of work to get it ready. Even so, I loved every bit of the process, from the lengthy but exciting approval process to the photo shoot a few months later.

American Farmhouse Style magazine was one of the newer magazines by Engaged Media’s family of brands. I have loved it since it came out. It was shockingly good for an American magazine (I usually gravitate toward Canadian and British magazines for quality of design), which often focus on the overly trendy or feature homes lacking imagination. But not American Farmhouse Style. It featured some of the heavy hitters in the design world as well as a mix of design styles, from rustic to modern, but all with a nod to homeyness and humility.

Even in the short time since our issue came out in the Fall of 2017, the popularity of the magazine has exploded. I’ve enjoyed seeing their Instagram following skyrocket (sometimes they feature my house!), and I always feel warm and fuzzy when I see their magazine on the shelf at the grocery store. It reminds me of that time when we got to do something “larger than life”…it was that short time when we threw everything we actually used in the garage to create a magazine-worthy show home, perfectly styled with well-placed treasures and flowers and fruit.

Anyway, one day recently, while doing something ordinary (with coffee in hand), I received an email from the editor of American Farmhouse Style magazine asking if I would like to be a weekly contributor. The magazine was launching a brand-new website with design inspiration and how-to articles geared toward readers who want more frequent content than what’s in the print magazine.

Since writing and coffee drinking are among my favorite activities (along with antique shopping), I’m doing it.

Check out American Farmhouse Style magazine’s new website! There is already a lot of amazing content up already, and my articles will be coming as soon as I can write them!
