Starting a home renovation project can be daunting for anyone. There are so many choices to be made and so many things that can go wrong. But, if you choose the right people to work with and have the right attitude, your project can be exciting and fun rather than miserable.
I wrote an article for American Farmhouse Style magazine about how to choose a contractor to help give you some ideas on how to go about this. Hopefully it gives you some insider info that you don’t normally hear.
One think I didn’t mention in the article is this: if you want a good experience with your contractor, be a good client. Contractors are just people who are trying to get your project done as smoothly as possible. If you’re inflexible, rude, demanding, or over-emotional, you will end up getting less help because your contractor will not want to deal with you. And, your price will go up because of all the extra time you’re taking up with your whining. If you’re kind and understanding, you’ll get people willing to bend over backwards to help you and do what they can to save you money. Just saying’. Take it or leave it. Be nice. Avoid the PITA tax (Pain In The A**).
