It’s December, and officially time to decorate for Christmas if you haven’t already! Some years we do elaborate decorations for Christmas, but this wasn’t that year.
Part of it was the addition of a third kitty to our household. Part of it was our kids decorated in the middle of October, making it easy for me to lower my standards and enjoy the free decorating service. Part of it was my interest in keeping things simple at home since we have a lot of kitchens in progress at the moment.
So. If you’re going to pare down this year on Christmas decor effort but still want things to be fun and festive, I have a few solutions for you!
1. Fresh Greenery
We use the free branches in the bins by the real trees at Home Depot to decorate our mantel. When it gets dry, we replace it with fresh ones and use the dry branches for kindling in the fireplace. Evergreen branches make for fun fires because of all the sparks and popping.

2. Christmas Dishes
Christmas dishes. We switch out our dishes every November and use them until mid-January. Our favorites are red and white and remind me of transferware. Any dishes you love to pull out at Christmas will do!

3. Bottlebrush Trees
Bottlebrush trees. These make everywhere look festive! We put them next to regular decor and make the whole thing look decorated. These are on top of our kitchen cabinets, so the photo isn’t the best, but you get the idea.

What kinds of simple decor ideas do you like best? Do you decorate the same year after year?
